A photo tour to Easter Island, the Land of the Giants, perfectly combines natural and man-made artifacts for making interesting, unique photos. You’ll be immersed in a place that focuses on the essence of human nature.
When: May 3-10, 2021
Who: Open to all skill levels, non-photographer spouses are welcome.
Group Size: Minimum 4 People, Maximum 10 People.
Where: This photo tour starts and ends in Hanga Roa (IPC)
Fitness Level: Relaxed. Access to most of the shooting locations in Easter Island is easy. The walks are relatively short, and there is not much hiking involved.
The tour is open to all levels of photographic skills, from beginner to experienced. However, there will be no formal workshops or critiques. We will share knowledge and skills along the way, in the spirit of real adventurers.
Day 1 | Arrive in Hanga Roa. Airport Code (IPC) | (D)
Welcome to Easter Island, after arrival at the airport you will be met by one of our representatives and taken to the hotel. After settling in and relaxing, we will gather for a trip orientation and meet all the participants, followed by a group dinner.
Day 2 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
We will leave after breakfast for an all-day trip to visit the sites along the south-east section of the island. Along the road, there will be many sites to visit, along with beautiful sea vistas. Some major sites visited will be: Vaihu / Hanga, Te’e, Akahange, Tongariki, and Anakena. In the evening, we will do a sunset shoot at Tongariki.
Day 3 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
We will leave very early in the morning to Anakena for a sunrise shoot. After the sunrise, we will return for breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will travel along the western coast, visiting various Ahu along the way, including Ahu Tahai, Ahu Akapu, Ahu Tepeu, and Ahu Akivi. We will have some time to rest after lunch. This evening our sunset shoot will be at Ahu Akivi.
Day 4 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
Today we head to Poike, in the extreme north-east area of the island, to visit some unique archeological sites not frequently visited. From the parking area, we will hike up the Volcano Poike, which will offer beautiful panoramic views from where you can view virtually all of the island. Some unique archeological sites are the Virgin Cave and Trachyte Moai. Our night shoot location will be Ahu Tongariki.
Day 5 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
A visit to Orango is on the schedule for today. Orango is the ceremonial stone village dedicated to the Birdman completion. We will also have fantastic views of the crater of the volcano, the ocean, and the adjacent islets of Moto Nui, Moto Iti, and Moto Kao Kao. Our afternoon is free to wander around town and visit the various local craft shops and markets, or better yet, a spa treatment in the resort. Our night shoot will be at Ahu Tahai.
Day 6 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
Today we head out for a long day and afternoon at Rano Rarku, the “nursery” of the Moais. This is the quarry of hard tuff from which the Moais were cut from. The right path leads to many standing and partially buried Moais. Along this path, there are two partially cut Moais than had not been finished. The left path takes you into the volcano’s crater where more Moais are present and the lake that has formed in the volcano’s crater.
Day 7 | Hanga Roa | (B, L, D)
For the last day of this photo tour, we will hike along the north coast of Easter Island. No vehicles are allowed on the path; we will walk this section until Anakena, where our vehicle will pick us for the return. If available, we can ride horses or ATV along this path (Not Included). The afternoon is free to relax or last-minute shopping, Later on, we will have our special farewell dinner.
Day 8 | Hanga Roa | (B)
It is time to say goodbye to Easter Island, after breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport to take your flight back home.
