Join Sarah Howard for an enchanting photography workshop in Exmoor, England.
One of Britain’s smallest National Parks, Exmoor contains some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in the country. A special combination of coast and countryside, forest and moorland, it is also one of the United Kingdom’s most unspoilt regions. Here, wide open moorland plunges down into deep wooded valleys where within lie rocky streams and waterfalls.
Exmoor is known for its beautiful rolling patchwork hills and from the moor, where wild ponies and highland cattle can often be found grazing, there are spectacular panoramic views to be found. We will take you on a photographic journey, from Tarr Steps, a prehistoric clapper bridge spanning the river Barle in the very heart of the moor, to delightful villages tucked away in the Doone Valley. We will visit local landmarks such the famous Robber Bridge, an ancient medieval packhorse bridge, and the dramatic Valley of the Rocks, perched above the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth with its picturesque harbour.
Nearby, the unspoilt village of Bossington is picture perfect whilst the pebble beach with its weathered groynes at Porlock Weir offers numerous opportunities for both close up captures and long exposures. Our base is the friendly and cosy Simonsbath House Hotel, nestled in the Barle Valley, in the very heart of Exmoor.
This provides the perfect starting point for our two day photography workshop in Exmoor. For photographers seeking both beauty and tremendous variety, this wonderful region is bursting with photographic potential. This August workshop has been timed to co-incide with the flowering of the heather, which provides a blaze of colour at around this time of year.
Our workshop starts on the Friday evening with introductions & a workshop brief, followed by dinner. You will be collected from the hotel the next morning for our sunrise shoot. Return to the hotel for breakfast. We will visit a further 3-4 locations on average that day. Lunch will be picnic style out on location. We will end the day with a sunset shoot after a fish and chip supper in Lynmouth. Day two is a repeat of day one with a 5:30pm finish so there is no sunset shoot or dinner on that day.
