Description:

Iceland is simply spectacular; an incredible landscape of huge contrast, shaped by the power of the sea and nature. It’s landscapes are iconic and big majestic views abound. This South Iceland photography workshop offers a fabulous opportunity to capture this diverse scenery, including huge waterfalls, rugged volcanic terrain, breathtaking glacial lagoons, black sand beaches littered with sparkling, sea washed ice sculptures and jagged mountain peaks. And let’s not forget the chance to see and experience the northern lights; a truly magical experience.

Iconic Locations

Experience some of Icelands most iconic locations on our 7 day photography workshop. From the dramatic sea stacks sculptured by the ocean at Vik and the incredible glacial lagoon at Jökulsárlón, to the hugely impressive mountain of Vestrahorn looming from the black volcanic beach, and the towering, powerful waterfall at Skógafoss.

Vík – black sands, sea-stacks & basalt columns
The peaceful seafront town of Vík sits on a dramatic stretch of coastline nestled between glacier topped mountains, rugged sea cliffs and black sand beaches. Nearby Reynisfjara is home to some truly impressive sea stacks and basalt columns all sculpted by the elements. Here too sits the beautiful red and white church which offers panoramic views over the area.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach
Considered to be one of the natural wonders of Iceland; Jökulsárlón is a stunning glacial lagoon filled with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. These icebergs are notable, not only for their impressive scale, but also for their striking colours. Diamond Beach is a stunning black sand beach where chunks of ice break away from the icebergs from the nearby lagoon and wash ashore. Here they are sculpted by the waves and tides. The striking contrast of glittering ice against the black volcanic sand makes it an amazing location for some fantastic photography.

The Striking mountains of Vestrahorn
Vestrahorn is one of Iceland’s most striking and unforgettable mountains. Its jagged peaks rise sharply from the surrounding black sand beaches making a dramatic backdrop. With waves crashing against the shore and the ever-changing light constantly transforming the scenery, Vestrahorn offers an incredible experience.

Skógafoss Waterfall
Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most impressive waterfalls in Iceland, with a width of 25m and a drop of 60m. Sustained by twin glaciers the Skóga river cascades over the sea cliffs in a stunning cascade.  Often a striking double rainbow results on sunny days. A popular location with film-makers, scenes of Thor: The Dark WorldThe Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Game of Thrones and other productions have all been shot here.

Proposed Itinerary:

Day 1 You will be met at Keflavik airport in Reykjavík (meeting time TBC). We’ll then transfer to our first hotel on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. After check in, we will meet in the early evening for introductions and an overview of our workshop itinerary before dinner.

Day 2 Full day exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The lonely Kirkjufell “church mountain” rising from the sea as a backdrop for the Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall is one of the most photographed locations in Iceland. We’ll also photograph the Búðir black church and the columnar basalt cliffs of Arnarstapi and Gerðuberg.

Day 3 After breakfast we will drive to Vík taking in the Golden Circle on the way. The Golden Circle is known for showcasing three of Iceland’s most famous natural attractions: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area and Gullfoss waterfall.

Day 4 Full day exploring near Vík.

Day 5 Morning in Vík. In the afternoon we will drive east, stopping enroute to photograph and stay near Jökulsárlón.

Day 6 Today is a glacier day! We will photograph Diamond beach, Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón glacial lagoons.

Day 7 Early this morning if conditions are suitable we will take an ice cave tour. (March only). Walk through an incredible frozen corridor, observing the blue hues and textures of ancient ice. Following breakfast we will drive east to the mighty Vestrahorn. This 1,500ft mountain sits on a black, volcanic sand beach. We’ll also stop at some interesting locations on the way.

Day 8 Today is our final day as we take the 6 hour drive back to Keflavik making a couple of short stops on the way (time permitting). Check into our hotel.
