Point Lobos and Monterey are the former stomping grounds of Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, Wyn Bullock, John Steinbeck, and other famous and not-so-famous artists. Ansel Adams proclaimed Point Lobos as “the greatest meeting of land and sea” on Earth and Edward Weston (and his sons) cut his photographic teeth on these shores. It’s a landscape of surf-tossed rocky coast with its edges worn away, revealing multi-colored layers and varied-shapes. Twisted cypress trees withstanding the onslaught of Pacific winds add to the mythical appearance of the landscape.
During the workshop we’ll spend four full days exploring Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, Pacific Grove, the Big Sur coast, and opportunities to explore Old Town, the wharf, and, optionally, the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We’ll explore using our senses and perception along with camera technique to make better photographs.
