Description:

The Isle of Skye is a truly magical place. The largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides, it is home to some of Scotland’s most iconic and spectacular landscapes. Although just 50 miles long and 25 miles wide, Skye is packed full of breathtaking scenery, from wild expansive moorland to jagged mountain peaks, deep lochs and dramatic coastline. The incredible scenery of the Isle of Skye will, quite simply, take your breath away. Home to an amazingly diverse collection of landscapes, all crammed into a relatively small area it is a photographers dream. Unforgettable sites such as the soaring peaks of the Cuillin Hills, the dramatic geology of the Old Man of Storr and The Quiraing, with its otherworldly landscape, offer limitless opportunities and the wild, mountainous scenery together with the atmosphere created by the frequently changing, and often dramatic, weather make for an intoxicating combination. Situated on the most westerly point of the island, Neist Point with its iconic lighthouse is unmissable and makes for a fabulous sunset spot. Also on the west coast is beautiful Talisker Bay. Surrounded by steep cliffs the bay is home to an impressive sea stack and fabulous rocky beach. The black and white sand found here comes together to create some wonderful sand patterns. The old bridge at Sligachan with the Red Cuillin as an impressive backdrop offers numerous photographic opportunities, along with the tumbling cascades of the river below. At the foot of the Black Cuillins lie the crystal clear blue Fairy Pools with their numerous waterfalls on the River Brittle. The stunning mountains behind make for some incredible photographs. Scotland is full of castles but the view of Eilean Donan is perhaps one of the most recognised. Although not technically on Skye, it’s just a short drive from Portree and a must see. Skye is packed full of incredible scenery in all directions. From our base in Portree we will be exploring the very best that Skye has to offer for landscape photography. We’ll be photographing from sunrise to sunset each day, taking in awe inspiring locations and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Over the course of the workshop we’ll be taking you to the best spots, helping you to capture great images, and presenting you with numerous challenges to help you improve your photography. We’ll also be making sure you have lots of fun!

What will I learn?:

Appropriate camera settings, working with light, composition techniques, focal length and depth of field, use of filters, long exposures with water, considerations for monochrome.
