Explore two of New Zealand’s most distinctive southern landscapes on this six-day small-group photography tour through Fiordland and the Catlins.
Led by New Zealand landscape photographer Richard Hume, the tour is designed around photographing the landscape in the best available light, with a flexible itinerary that can respond to weather and changing conditions.
Based initially in Te Anau, we explore Fiordland National Park and the wider Fiordland region, photographing mountain landscapes, native forest, lakes, rivers and the dramatic scenery of Milford Sound. The tour includes opportunities to photograph Milford Sound around sunrise and sunset, as well as a day trip into Doubtful Sound.
The final part of the tour travels south to the Catlins, where the landscape changes to rugged coastline, waterfalls and native forest. Photography locations include the Nugget Point area and selected locations within the Catlins Forest Park.
Throughout the tour I provide practical, individual tuition covering composition, working with natural light, camera technique and the use of filters. The small group size allows plenty of time at each location, and tuition can be adapted to individual experience levels, from beginners through to experienced photographers.
Accommodation is included, with each participant having their own room, along with transport during the tour. The emphasis is on an enjoyable, unhurried photography experience rather than following a rigid itinerary. Locations and timings may change according to weather, light and local conditions.
This tour is suitable for photographers using DSLR or mirrorless cameras at all skill levels who want to develop their landscape photography while experiencing two very different regions of New Zealand’s South Island.
