Photograph The incredible West Coast of Scotland Located in the far north west of the Scottish Highlands, Assynt is home to some of the most breathtaking and rugged scenery in Scotland. Here you can find yourself surrounded by a wild and remote, yet beautiful landscape, far from the hustle and bustle of more well known locations. Aside of wide open vistas, this ancient region is also known for its dramatic mountains, picturesque lochs, and spectacular coastline. Join us for this fabulous Assynt photography workshop. Impressive Mountain Scenery The impressive mountain landscapes of Assynt include the impressive peaks of Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Cùl Mòr, all of which offer great opportunities for some superb landscape photography. Stac Pollaidh and Suilven in particular are two of the most picturesque and make great backdrops for several locations we plan to visit. Depending on your vantage point the distinctive feature of Suilven is that it appears to change shape. Astounding Coastline and empty beaches The unspoilt coastline of Assynt features rugged cliffs, lighthouses and a number of sea stacks; perfect material for shooting some magnificent seascapes. The Old Man of Stoer, an impressive 60m sandstone sea-stack, is one of the finest sea-stacks in Scotland. There are also some absolutely stunning beaches to be found here. With pure white sand and clear turquoise blue waters, Clachtoll beach, which features the famous Split Rock, is unmissable. Beautiful Lochs Here there are many beautiful lochs to photograph. One of the most striking, which is set amongst some breathtaking scenery, is Loch Assynt itself which has its own castle perched on a small rocky promontory. Surrounded by foreboding mountains, the ruins of Ardvreck Castle provide a great photo opportunity. The tree topped islands also make for some lovely images, especially during sunrise or sunset. There are many more lochs to capture in this area too. One in particaular close to our base in Lochinver is Loch Druim Suardalain which provides fantastic views of Suilven. For photographers seeking both dramatic scenery and variety, this wonderful, less explored region is bursting with photographic potential.Nearby Achmelvich beach has the ‘wow’ factor from the first moment you first set your eyes upon it. Along with Clachtoll, it also has some great rocky headlands to explore.
