Northern Ireland Coast & Castles

Join Mike Shipman for an exploration of the sights and sounds of Northern Ireland; the rugged coast, castles, rolling hills and lofty peaks, lakes, rivers, and forests, along with the Irish people and architecture. We’ll venture along the streets of Belfast, and Enniskillen (my ancestral home), photograph the wild and rugged north coast, including the Giant’s Causeway, Fanad Lighthouse, and Dunluce Castle, and the beaches of Ballycastle. We’ll wander down the Dark Hedges and the forest paths and creeksides of more than one forest park.

We will wander at a Photographer’s Pace, allowing you time to get to know each location. This means we’ll visit only 1 – 3 locations per day. This is not a whirlwind tour. You’ll have time to look and see and ponder, to let the landscape show you what it wants you to photograph. Expect to have up to 2 hours or more per location to find the smallest thing and the largest thing to photograph, to make long exposures, to experiment, to hone your personal vision. This is a photography exploration, also, and while post-processing is an important part of the photography process, I won’t be spending specific time on that but will be happy to assist where needed. Expect early mornings, long days, with breaks, into the evening. We’ll explore under all but extreme weather conditions.
