Whether you’re a seasoned pro or brand new to weddings, you’ll pick up real-world tips and tricks to level up fast. This hands-on course covers everything from getting ready to the reception. We’ll dive into how to handle tricky light, tricky people and tricky problems as they pop up…from multi-day events to tiny elopements…. from cold and rainy weather to hot midday sun with no shade. You’ll also learn how to photograph night-time ambient light, plus on-camera and off-camera flash. We’ll talk about working with clients, posing and directing, and making even the most camera-shy feel comfortable. We’ll also touch on workflow, pricing and planning.
This a no-fluff in-person workshop. You’ll gain practical, hands-on training so you’re ready for any situation on the wedding day!

Location: University of Victoria, 3800 Finnerty Road When: Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 9am-5:30pm Length: 7+ hours of instruction with a 45-minute lunch break Gear: You’ll be asked to bring anything you’d normally take to a wedding … camera bodies, lenses, flashes, etc. Included: Lunch is on your own but there are lots of food choices nearby Details: Classroom location and parking details, what to wear, what to bring bring and simple liability form to sign will go out to participants by email.
– The timing and pacing of the wedding day
– Fast ways to handle unpredictable light: harsh sun, dark rooms, mixed lighting
– Creative in-camera solutions to make ordinary or unattractive spaces look beautiful
– What to do if it rains or there’s bad weather
– How to photograph night and ambient light (including low-light focusing)
– Flash photography
– Posing & directing couples and the wedding party (and making even the most camera-shy person feel comfortable)
– Group portrait posing
– Storytelling techniques
– Adapting quickly when timelines run late or plans change
– Working with second photographers or assistants

This is an in-person workshop offered in Victoria, British Columbia.
Prerequisites While this is a course for those who might be new to wedding photography, it is not geared to those who want to learn how to use their camera (or for those brand-new to photography itself).
