Improve Your Photography In The Beautiful Yorkshire Dales
Providing a great location for our 3-day landscape photography workshop, the Yorkshire Dales is characterised by rolling hills, lush green valleys, tumbling waterfalls and inspiring limestone features. Named from the old Norse word ‘dalr’, meaning ‘valleys’, it is one of the UK’s most diverse national parks.
A Rich Heritage
Covering 680 square miles of outstanding scenery, the Yorkshire Dales is one of the loveliest and most unspoilt areas in England, possessing an unrivaled sense of tranquility. Steeped in heritage, it is a living, working landscape telling many tales of hardship over the years and of those who have helped shape what you see before you today.
Cascading Waterfalls and Flower Filled Meadows
Containing arguably some of the most enchanting scenery of the region, Upper Swaledale offers a wealth of photographic possibilities, with stunning views and a variety of exquisite waterfalls along the River Swale. Its verdant valleys are a delight, the most famous of which is Gunnerside; a patchwork of fields intersected by dry stone walls and ancient barns.
Photograph Striking Architecture
In neighbouring Wensleydale, man has also left his mark in the form of Dent Head viaduct. Forming part of the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway route, it is a superb piece of architecture as is the nearby dramatic Ribblehead viaduct with no less than twenty four arches. Wensleydale is also home to many more lovely waterfalls which provide us with plenty of opportunities for exposure work and controlling the movement of water with filters.
Rugged Limestone Pavement
Our final day will be spent taking in some of the limestone pavement for which the Yorkshire Dales is famous for. Revealed during the last ice age, the ‘porous’ limestone is prone to erosion, which, over thousands of years, has had the effect of carving out channels into it, thereby forming a natural pavement. We will be visiting what is known as ‘The Three Peaks’ area around the famous Ribblehead viaduct, which provides some of the most dramatic scenery in the Dales.
